Muis voor onze jarige kater / Mouse for cat

Gisteren was onze kater, Spooky, jarig.

Yesterday was the birthday of our cat, Spooky. He turned 12 years old! For this happening I made a crochet mouse. Because I felt ill yesterday I had to make it in parts, but at the end of the afternoon, the mouse was finished! Spooky was really excited about the mouse, the mouse and him were the biggest friends ever!
Well.. actually not, that is what I keep telling myself, he is giving no attention to the mouse. The biggest present for my cat is that he can go outside. ‘till a few months ago we were living in a apartment 3 high near a busy road, so he wasn’t allowed to go outside.  Since a few days he is exploring (and dominating!) the world outside our garden. I really love to see him explore the world and afterwards laying next to me on the couch relaxing.
Happily for me, he was kind enough to hold the mouse for a few seconds so I could make the picture. Well, he looks quite happy, doesn’t he?

Gereedschap / Tools

Since I discovered crochet I spent many hours doing it, which can be painfull for my hands. While I was thinking 'bout a solution to this "problem"  I was reading other blogs. So I saw on Martine's blog "bees and appletrees" her "pimp your crochet-hook" with her brilliant idea for my "problem": polymor-clay!
On my first day off after seeing this idea I went to the shop to find a few happy-colors of clay, rushed home with fully enthusiasm, not taking time for taking my jacket off I ran to my kitchen to make a nice coat for my two favorite hooks. First one I decorated with hearts and the second one is a twist of left-overs. I had to wait for a half an hour and then they were ready! Now I'm really exited; my hooks look so happy and, the reason why I made these; less pain in my hand while crochet!
I also want to share another part of crochet what makes me happy; all the colours of yarn! :)

In the beginning...

Hi there!

Welcome to my page about crochet and cooking!
Cooking is a passion of my for a long time. I give a weekly cooking activity at work (I'm an occupational therapist), love to cook for family and friends and have a small cooking-group with a few friends of mine. I've been to cooking courses in Thailand and India, love reading cooking books and try new recipes. And of course; try food of others!

Crochet is a new hobby of mine. Last winter in Holland started the new hype crochet with tshirs-yarn (Zpagetti). This was all in single crochets and was a really hard experience because i didn't know how to turn! You can imagine how it looked like and I didn't finish it out of frustration.

In the mean time my partner and I bought a house and moved into it. While unpacking I found my half-finished-pillow and started all over again.

I got addicted to crochet and learned in two evenings all stitches from paper! On the third evening started the next step: combining all the stitches to really make something. I looked over the internet and found lots of crochet-bloggers who inspired me. The first "real thing" I made (after the pillow) were a few of these beautiful flowers from a tutorial of Tara from Alaska (thanks for posting these lovely flowers!). It decorates my jeans jacket and lots of other stuff!

Now I crochet almost every day, while 1,5 month ago I was only able to do single crochets!

I will soon post other stuff I made. One of it (the one I'm most proud of) is a surprise for my pregnant sister, so I can't post it yet. After the baby is delivered I will post it!
